The Anusim Project was created by Adar David ben Scheffer in 2019 to provide a historical record of Crypto-Judaic (Hidden-Jewish) heritage and communities around the world. As a centralized repository dedicated solely to the documentation, and preservation of Anusim history, culture, and the prosperity of endangered Bnei Anusim communities.
Our project includes maintaining an online archive of video documentaries, audio files of music; language and stories, as well as photos, and resource materials for researchers and educators.
Many Bnei Anusim, descendants of Anusim (Crypto-Jews), are living in communities that are disenfranchised, with very little knowledge of Jewish practice and Jewish literacy. They often feel intimidated and illegitimate by encounters with mainstream branches of Judaism.
What we do:
We bring heightened sensitivity and awareness of the Anusim to the greater Jewish world through insightful documentaries, travel exchange programs that allow the Bnei Anusim to connect with compassionate Jewish travelers eager to meet them and assist with connecting to global Jewry. In some cases, we work with established Jewish organizations that are already facilitating Jewish education, coordinating donated items to reach isolated communities, as well as fundraising for projects. We complement their efforts by maintaining an online archive for education and research by others who want to learn more about the Anusim.
The end goal is Jewish unity through education, outreach, and support to guarantee the continued survival of these endangered communities and the prosperity of the Jewish people.
We are open to all Jews and friends of the Jewish people regardless of their background, race, denominational affiliation, geographic location, or education. We share our unified dedication to preserving Judaism and Jewish life for those who seek this connection.
Our registered address is in the United States, but Adar David ben Scheffer works from Portugal where he coordinates video productions, tours, and other projects on our website.
